My name is Rob Allen and I am a social historian interested in radicals of the late 19th century in both the UK and the US, with a particular emphasis on the informal social networks they formed.
I have written on William Morris, the socialist and designer, and particularly on Red House, the house he had built in Bexleyheath, near London. More recently I have been concentrating on the life of John De Morgan, a nineteenth-century Irish born agitator who lived in England before emigrating to New York. I am currently writing a book entitled Agitation and Indignation in London and New York in the late 19th century.
I now live in New Zealand, where I am Deputy Vice Chancellor of Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
